Cofura Terms of Service
Version 1.0 · Effective November 6, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Cofura. By creating an account or otherwise using Cofura, you agree to these Terms, to our Community Rules, and to the handling of your information as described in our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Cofura.
1. Who we are
Cofura is operated by its three founders, Masaki Chien, Sahil Khanna and Jacob Alegre, as individuals; no company has been formed yet. "We", "us", "our" and "Cofura" in these Terms mean them, and also mean the Cofura app and website where the context requires. You may contact us at [email protected], or by mail at:
Cofura, c/o Masaki Chien
600 W Santa Ana Blvd, Ste 114-A3075
Santa Ana, CA 92701
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be a current student at an eligible school and must confirm your school email address. At present, the only eligible school is UC Irvine.
- You may have only one account, and it must belong to you. You may not use Cofura if we have previously removed you.
3. Your account
- You must keep your profile accurate and your sign-in method secure. You are responsible for all activity on your account.
- You may delete your account at any time in Settings. Our Privacy Policy describes what we retain after deletion, and for how long.
4. What Cofura is, and is not
- Cofura helps you find people to build things with: you swipe, match, and chat.
- Cofura is free. There are no purchases in the app.
- Cofura is in beta. Features may change, stop working or be removed, and we do not guarantee that Cofura will always be available.
- We do not verify users beyond their age and school. We do not conduct background checks, and we cannot guarantee that any user is who they claim to be or will do what they say. Use good judgment, and meet in public.
- A match is not a partnership. Any agreement you make with someone you meet on Cofura is solely between you and that person. We are not a party to it, and nothing on Cofura is legal, financial or investment advice.
5. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
You must follow the Community Rules. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. This includes harassment, threats, hate, unsolicited sexual content, spam, and any illegal content or conduct.
- You can report a profile or a message from within the app, and you can block any user.
- A member of our team reviews every report, with the most serious reports first.
- We may remove content, and may warn, suspend or permanently remove any user who violates these Terms or the Community Rules, with or without notice. Serious violations result in immediate removal.
- We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities as required by law.
6. Your content
- You own the content you post, including your photos, profile and messages.
- So that we can operate Cofura, you grant us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to store, copy, resize and display your content to other users, and to review it for safety. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content we retain as described in the Privacy Policy (for example, copies kept for a report or as required by law).
- You may post only content you have the right to share. Do not post other people's photos or private information without their permission.
- We do not use your content for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models.
7. Messages to Kip
Kip is the Cofura team's chat in your inbox. Members of our team read and respond to messages you send there, and reply as Kip. Kip does not send account or safety notices. Do not send passwords or sensitive personal information to Kip.
8. Prohibited conduct
You may not:
- break the law, or use Cofura to harm anyone;
- scrape, copy or collect other users' data, or use bots or automated accounts;
- attempt to circumvent our safety checks, rate limits, blocks or suspensions;
- hack, overload or interfere with Cofura, or attempt to reverse-engineer it; or
- use Cofura to sell, advertise or send spam.
9. Termination
You may stop using Cofura and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if the law requires it, or if we discontinue Cofura. If we discontinue Cofura, we will try to notify you in advance.
10. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Cofura infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with: your contact information; a description of the copyrighted work; where the material is located on Cofura; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf; and your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is sufficient). We will remove content that infringes.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
COFURA IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT COFURA WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, OR THAT YOU WILL FIND A COFOUNDER OR TEAMMATE. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT OF ANY USER, ON OR OFF COFURA.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL OR OPPORTUNITIES, OR FOR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY USER, ON OR OFF COFURA, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE COFURA IS FREE, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO COFURA OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO US$50.
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
13. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Cofura and its founders, team members and moderators from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your content; (b) your use of Cofura; (c) your violation of these Terms or the Community Rules; or (d) your interactions with other users, on or off Cofura. We will notify you of any such claim and may choose to control its defense, in which case you agree to cooperate with us.
14. Governing law and disputes
If you have a problem with Cofura, please contact [email protected] first; most issues can be resolved that way. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to Cofura or these Terms will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
15. Apple
If you obtained Cofura from Apple's App Store or TestFlight:
- These Terms are between you and Cofura, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Cofura or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Cofura.
- If Cofura fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any (Cofura is free). Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Cofura.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to Cofura, including product liability claims, claims that Cofura fails to meet any legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection claims, or claims that Cofura infringes a third party's intellectual property rights. We are responsible for those claims to the extent set out in these Terms.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with the terms of any third-party service you use with Cofura, such as Apple or Google sign-in.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we will change the version and date at the top. If we make a material change, we will ask you to accept the new version in the app before you continue using Cofura.
17. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, the Community Rules and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about Cofura, and replace any earlier agreements on the same subject.
- Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, that part will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted, and the rest of these Terms will remain in effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any part of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms. We may transfer ours, including to a company we form to operate Cofura, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
- Events beyond our control. We are not liable for any delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Survival. Sections 6 (for content we retain), 10 through 14, and 17 survive the end of your use of Cofura.
- Notices. We may send you notices by email or in the app. You may send notices to us at the contact details in section 18.
- Headings. Headings are for convenience only and do not affect the meaning of these Terms.
